两者作定语时的不同之处：
historic是指过去所发生的事情、地点、时间等在历史上有重大意义的、历史上有影响的、历史上著名的、历史悠久的；
historical是指历史上的人物及事件都是真实的、有据可考的，而非虚构的、传说的、现代的；
history置于名词前，表示与“历史教学”相关的含义，如a history book一本历史书。
可以修饰同一词语的不同含义
historic与historical修饰同一个词语而意义有所不同，如：

如果用historical形容人物和事件，表明这些人物和事件都是确实存在过或发生过的；
如果用historic形容地方或事件，表明这些地方或事件在历史上是非常重要的。
所以，一〇六六年发生的黑斯廷斯战役——
既可用historical来形容（表明它确实发生过），
也可用historic来形容（表明它对英国历史有过重大影响）。
