happen v. 发生

普通用词，多用于偶然事件。happen作"发生"讲，主要指偶然发生，而且多指整个情况。例如：How did the accident happen? 事故是怎样发生的？

〔辨析〕

主要用于事先计划好的事情。take place作"发生"解时较为正式，不带有偶然之意，并经常用来指经事先安排的事情。例如："The May Fourth Movement" took place in 1919. "五四运动"发生于1919年。
