在美国的大多数的大学和附属（教学）医院一般有两种类型职员，staff和 faculty，他们分别指的是什么样的职员呢？

Staff（工作人员）

Staff: Technical personnel, Lab Technicians, Research Assistants, Research Associates, Physician Assistants (PA), Nurses and Secretaries, etc. It generally refers to those technical and administrative (support) personnel, instead of those hold Academic positions (appointments).

工作人员：技术人员、实验室技术人员、研究助理、研究助理、医师助理（PA）、护士和秘书等，一般指那些技术和行政（支持）人员，而不是那些担任学术职务（任命）的人员。

Faculty（教职人员）

Faculty: Medical Doctors (MD) who practice, and teach medical students, residents, supervising clinical fellows; PhD or MD (or one holds both MD and PhD) who holds the position of Assistant (junior faculty), Associate or Full Professor, and senior or high level administrative personnel.

教员：执业并教授医学生、住院医师、临床督导研究员的医生（MD）；兼任助理（初级教员）、副教授或正教授、高级或高级管理人员的博士或MD（或一人兼任MD和博士）。

这两种职员其实就类似于我们中国的大学也分教职人员和行政人员。
