Editors of newspapers and magazines often go to extremes to provide their reader with unimportant facts and statistics. Last year a journalist had been instructed by a well-known magazine to write an article on the president's palace in a new African republic.

报刊杂志的编辑常常为了向读者提供成立一些关紧要的事实和统计数字而走向极端。去年，一位记者受一家有名的杂志的委托写一篇关于非洲某个新成立共和国总统府的文章。

（1）extreme表示“极端”

… often go to extremes … 经常走极端

Don’t go to extremes in everything. 凡事不要走极端。

也可以使用take to extremes来表达。

Taken to extremes, this kind of behavior can be dangerous. 这种行为如果走向极端则可能非常危险。

in the extreme 表示“极度、非常”之意。比如：

The journey would be dangerous in the extreme. 这段旅程将极其危险。

（2）provide表示“提供”

to provide their readers with中，provide sb. with sth. 表示向某人提供某物。或provide sth. for sb.也可以。

The country has provided us with the opportunity of education. 国家为我们提供了受教育的机会。
