Today we are going to talk about the topic of extinction. Presently, there are many species on the brink of extinction due to such a rapid change in the environment caused by humans. Some people say that this is a very serious problem, so that brings up today’s question: What would happen when some species disappear on Earth?

大多数同学们这里都会觉得一些物种的消失可能会导致食物链的断裂，环境的改变，等等。这里我选择回答一个不一样的观点。我个人认为其实一些物种消失并不会有任何大的影响，理由是在生命的历史长河中，其实已经有太多太多的物种被灭绝了，然而生命仍然延续至今。那么在答题的时候，我会一开头先给出明确的立场，然后做个小的让步，接下来阐述我的原因。大家可以听听看，我这里具体是怎么说的。

Unlike what most people believe, I actually think that it’s not a big deal if some species become extinct on Earth. A lot of people might say that the disappearance of one species would cause a cascade of disruptions in food chain, and the entire ecosystem would fail as a whole, but if you really consider the history of life, you would know that this is not true. During the past billions of years, countless species have gone extinct, like the dinosaurs. Yet, life continued to thrive just fine. The core reason behind this is that life always has a way to adapt to the new environment. No matter how difficult the situation is ,we as living creatures always find a way to survive. So I think people are actually exaggerating the consequence of the extinction of species.
