凡是学英语的同学没有不认识something这个单词的，可是我们会在阅读的过程中经常发现它还有许多不同的用法。今天我们就来挖一挖它的用法。

一、something做代词用，意思是某事物

这是最基本的用法，也最容易理解。

I need something to eat.

二、想来重要（或值得注意）的事物

There’s something in what he says.他的话有道理。

It’s something to have such a good job.拥有这样一份工作是令人知足的。（拥有这样的一份工作想来是重要的事情）

You won the match, which is really something.你赢得了比赛，这很不错。

三、大致、左右（表示不确切的数量）

I called the salesgirl at something after ten o’clock.我大约十点多给女销售打了电话。

Tom pays me five pounds per hour, something like that.汤姆每小时付给我五英镑，大致如此。

四、something of有点儿

He found himself something of a (= to some degree a) celebrity.他发现自己差不多成名人了。

His performance was something of a disappointment.他的表现多少有点令人失望。

五、(表示对说的话不能肯定)或别的什么，或诸如此类

What’s the name of the painter? Picasso or something.画家的名字叫什么？好像叫什么毕加索吧。

That hotel charged me 120 yuan for one night or something like that.那个饭店要价一晚上120块钱左右，差不多这个价格。
